General
Is HomeCalcPro really free? ▼
Yes, completely free. No sign-up, no subscription, no premium tier. All calculators are available to everyone at no cost, and we intend to keep it that way.
Do I need to create an account? ▼
No account is needed. Open any calculator, enter your numbers, and get your results instantly. We don't collect your measurements or personal information.
Does HomeCalcPro work on my phone? ▼
Yes. All our calculators are designed to work on smartphones, tablets, and desktop computers. You can use them at the hardware store, in your car, or on-site at your project.
Accuracy
How accurate are the estimates? ▼
Our calculators use standard industry formulas with built-in waste factors. For straightforward rectangular spaces, results are very accurate. For irregularly shaped areas or complex patterns (like diagonal tile), you may want to add an additional 5–10% buffer.
Why does the calculator add a waste factor? ▼
Real projects always generate waste — cut-offs at corners, damaged tiles or planks, and material you set aside as spares for future repairs. Our waste factors are based on industry standards: 10% for simple layouts, 15–20% for diagonal or complex patterns.
Should I trust these estimates to order materials? ▼
Our estimates are a great starting point for planning and shopping. We always recommend reviewing results with your contractor or a knowledgeable store associate before placing large orders. Final measurements by a professional are the most reliable approach for major renovations.
Paint Calculator
Why are my paint numbers different from what the store says? ▼
Our calculator assumes 350 sq ft per gallon — an industry standard for smooth walls. Textured or porous walls absorb more paint and may need 15–20% extra. Also, darker or richer colors often need a 3rd coat over lighter bases.
Does the paint calculator include the ceiling? ▼
No — the current paint calculator calculates only the four walls. Add ceiling square footage separately (length × width) and calculate an additional ½–1 gallon for a standard ceiling.
Flooring & Tile
What waste factor should I use for flooring? ▼
For simple rectangular rooms, 10% is standard. Use 15% for rooms with closets, alcoves, or hallways. Use 20% for diagonal patterns or herringbone layouts, which generate significantly more cut waste.
The tile calculator says I need X tiles — is that exact? ▼
It's a minimum estimate with waste included. We recommend buying one extra box (or 5–10%) beyond the estimate so you have spares for future repairs. Tile dye lots vary between production runs, so spare tiles from the same lot are very valuable later.
